Team Strengths

Goals

  • Understand the main strengths across the team to better utilize skills

  • Improve team unity and empathy for one another

  • Determine potential gaps within strengths to focus future hiring efforts

Method

Research

I participated in Bossed Up’s Level Up course in 2021, during which I had the opportunity to participate in Gallup’s CliftonStrengths Assessment. I thought it was a helpful framework and lens through which to view oneself, and the idea of strengths-based leadership really resonated with me. Rather than spending a lot of extra time and energy working to build up our weaknesses, why not double down on our strengths? I also thought it could be a good way for team members to understand each other better on a personal level, and know when to bring someone in when one of their strengths could be helpful. At the time, my top 5 strengths were:

Activator, Relator, Harmony, Individualization, Consistency

Session Pre-Work

I determined that purchasing each team member a copy of Strengths Based Leadership would also get them an access code to take the CliftonStrengths assessment. I asked everyone to please take the assessment and download their reports prior to our in-person session. I asked them to review each of their Strengths and highlight which areas resonated with them and which didn’t seem accurate.
